What if... optimizing with intention?

What if everyone had a candid conversation about what we’re optimizing for as a school?

Would we discover that teachers are optimizing for grades in the gradebook? For covering all the content in their curriculum? For ensuring that every kid in their classroom is known and loved?

Would we discover that the admissions team is optimizing for full-pay families? For super smart kids, or super athletic kids, or super artistic kids? For mission-driven families?

Would we discover that the Board and Head of School are optimizing for predictable results? For a culture of experimentation?

In other words, would we discover that we are aligned, or that we have different expectations of one another?

As Patrick Lencioni has said, “If you could get all the people in an organization rowing in the same direction, you could dominate any industry, in any market, against any competition, at any time.”

Each Wednesday we share a “what if” scenario. Consider it a provocation rather than a suggestion.
