What stories are students telling themselves?
What stories are students telling themselves about school, whose assessments—SAT, AP, multiple choice quizzes, blue book essay exams, etc.—have not prepared them for a global pandemic, economic uncertainty, and civil unrest?
As recent education research demonstrates, students are continually telling themselves stories about what they are doing and who they are becoming.
Too often that story is, “This work doesn’t matter” and “I’m a number” (or a grade, or a class ranking).
That is why we are launching virtual Expeditions—so students can experience how much they matter, to themselves and to a world that desperately needs a new generation of change makers.
As always, the experience will be grounded in our four essential questions:
Who am I?
Who are we?
What matters to us?
What are we going to do about it?
What questions are your students exploring—by design?
Choose carefully. Their answers will shape the stories that they tell themselves.
