What if... mission-based grading?
What if schools assessed students not just on academic performance, but also on how they bring to life the school’s mission?
Sound too hard to capture? Consider this model from Rowland Hall (UT), dreamed up by Annie Barton and Wendell Thomas. Rowland Hall has already used it for four years.
In a recent phone call, Wendell Thomas told me that this Mission Based Grading rubric has shifted student thinking from “How can I get a higher grade?” to “How can I get better at this?”

Each Wednesday we share a "what if" scenario. These are not suggestions as much as provocations.
If you have a "what if" scenario you would like to share, just send an email (and indicate whether you would like it attributed it to you).
