What is the Riley’s Way “Call for Kindness” contest?

Riley’s Way is a Brooklyn-based nonprofit whose mission is to empower young leaders to use kindness and empathy to create connections and drive change.

Their “Call for Kindness” poses this challenge:

“How might you drive change that inspires kindness and builds meaningful connections in your community?”

“We want to hear from you!

“At Riley's Way, we believe that leading with intentional kindness is the key to building meaningful relationships and making the world a better place. We approach everyone as a potential friend and celebrate bringing together people from different worlds, just like Riley did. We want you to embody Riley’s Way’s values to design a new project, or to improve an existing project, that strengthens your community and brings people together.

“6 Kindness Fellows will receive a $3,000 prize to launch or grow their project with their school or a non-profit partner.”

How can Expeditionaries help?

During an Expedition…

  1. Students identify a social impact design challenge. In this case, it would be focused on kindness.

  2. Teams use a design thinking approach to craft solutions. Teacher-coaches ask guiding questions.

  3. Students practice feedback and reflection, especially on their natural strengths and their collaboration skills.

  4. Teams pitch a prototype to an executive panel and audience for feedback. In this case, teams would use this feedback to fine tune their Riley’s Way Contest final applications, due on March 22, 2019.
